The laboratory is starting a particulate matter measurement campaign at several points across the city, with the aim of characterising how concentrations vary over the day and between areas.
What is measured
PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations are recorded simultaneously, together with the meteorological variables that govern dispersion: wind speed and direction, temperature and relative humidity.
Measuring the pollutant without measuring the weather leaves the data almost silent: the same emission gives very different readings depending on what the atmosphere is doing that morning.
Expected results
The campaign aims to produce a description of the daily and spatial variation of particulate matter that can serve as a technical basis for urban management decisions. The results will be published in this section once processing is complete.
