Research and development in metrology and calibration systems for renewable energy and atmospheric sciences

Equipment project from the “Laboratory Equipment for Research 2018-2” competition, funded with S/ 2,000,000. It brought to the laboratory the reference instruments it measures with today: the EKO MS-711 and MS-713 spectroradiometers and the SkyVUE8 LIDAR ceilometer. Without it, the laboratory could measure how much radiation arrives, but not what it is made of or what lies between the Sun and the ground.

Transmittance study of commercial glass for solar applications by optical spectroscopy

Optical characterisation of the glass available on the local market for use as a cover in solar collectors. The cover glass determines how much energy actually enters a collector, and product sheets do not give that figure. Principal investigator: Luis Alberto Montoya Portugal.

Power losses by reflection in the glass covers of solar water heaters by tilt angle and season

Quantification of the energy lost by reflection at the cover of a solar water heater depending on its tilt and the time of year. It determines the most suitable installation angle at this latitude. Principal investigator: Luis Alberto Montoya Portugal.
