Working with society

Laboratory services

Testing, measurement campaigns and technical advice for companies, public institutions and research projects.

Photovoltaic module characterisation

Measurement of the real performance of solar panels, new or already installed, to verify the manufacturer's ratings or quantify how much they have lost over the years.

Includes

  • Current-voltage curve and maximum power
  • Comparison with standard test conditions
  • Thermographic inspection for hot spots
  • Technical report with results and observations

For Installers, rural electrification projects, institutional buyers

Solar resource assessment

Irradiance data to size an installation or assess the feasibility of a project at a specific location.

Includes

  • Global, diffuse and ultraviolet irradiance series
  • Resource estimates for sites without instruments
  • On-site measurement campaigns
  • Expected annual yield estimate

For Project developers, engineering consultancies, local governments

Air quality monitoring

Measurement campaigns for particulate matter and the associated meteorological variables, with interpretation of the results.

Includes

  • PM2.5 and PM10 concentration
  • Simultaneous meteorological variables
  • Temporal and spatial analysis of the data
  • Report compared against current regulations

For Municipalities, environmental impact studies, schools and health centres

Materials characterisation

Optical and structural tests on solid samples and thin films, using the laboratory's instruments.

Includes

  • Ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy
  • Determination of optical properties
  • Electrical measurements on thin films
  • Advice on sample preparation

For Research groups, thesis students, companies with in-house development

Energy audits and efficiency

Diagnosis of a building's energy use and thermal behaviour, with concrete improvement measures ranked by payback.

Includes

  • Indoor temperature and humidity logging
  • Thermographic inspection of the envelope
  • Energy consumption analysis
  • Prioritised improvement proposal

For Public institutions, schools, companies, housing projects

Training and advice

Academic supervision and technical training in renewable energy and environmental measurement.

Includes

  • Undergraduate and graduate thesis supervision
  • Pre-professional internships in the laboratory
  • Tailored courses and workshops
  • Collaboration on research projects

For Students from UNSA and other universities, professionals in the sector

How it works

From the first email to the report

  1. Enquiry

You write to us describing what you need to measure or solve, where and by when. The more specific, the better.

  2. Assessment

We check whether the laboratory can do it with the available instruments, and to what extent. If we cannot, we tell you.

  3. Proposal

You receive a proposal with scope, methodology, timeline and cost, processed according to the university’s procedures.

  4. Work and report

The test or campaign is carried out and a technical report is delivered with the results, the methodology and its limitations.

Frequently asked questions

Questions we are often asked

Does the laboratory provide services to external companies and institutions?

Yes. The laboratory carries out tests, measurement campaigns and technical advice for companies, municipalities, consultancies and other research groups, within the outreach framework of the National University of San Agustín.

How do I request a test or a measurement campaign?

By writing to the laboratory’s email address with a description of what needs to be measured, the location and the expected timeline. We then assess technical feasibility and prepare a proposal with scope, timeline and cost.

Can students use the laboratory’s equipment?

Yes. Students of the School of Physics doing their thesis or internship in the laboratory work with the instruments under the supervision of a responsible researcher.

Does the laboratory issue technical reports valid for official procedures?

The laboratory issues technical reports signed by the responsible researchers. Whether they are accepted for a specific procedure depends on the requirements of the requesting body, so it is worth checking before commissioning the test.

Is the service contracted with UNSA or with the laboratory?

It depends on the nature of the job. If it involves the use of property or intellectual property of the National University of San Agustín, or if there is a contractual obligation with the university or another body, the service must go through the appropriate institutional channels. Otherwise it may be arranged in a personal capacity by members of the laboratory. This website is not an official UNSA portal, but the question of which channel applies can be answered here.
